The Chronicles of Dengril – Introduction

The name is Dengril d’Rouen. I came from a small gnomish community called Rouen located in the mountains south of Ravens Bluff; however, I’ve spent the vast (get it?) majority of my life living within that vaunted city’s borders. Staying out of Procampur is a goal, but seldom a reality, but I have to look at everything as bein for the greater good, even Procampur. These cities lie within a region known as The Vast (now do you get it?), which is part of the much larger world of Faerûn, a bountiful land filled with myriad adventures for those who enjoy them.

Raised in the care of the priests of the Temple of Segojan Earthcaller, I learned how to speak with him and channel his power to the benefit of those around me. I’ve travelled with some of the most famous adventurers in Ravens Bluff and might even consider myself one of them were I really concerned with such things (sometimes I am).

This all changed when I became High Priest of the temple in Ravens Bluff. My time had been consumed with ecumenical outreach and clerical (pun time) matters, organizing the best and brightest priests in their daily duties. While preaching Segojan’s word to the masses is incredibly important, it also meant that my adventuring days began to stretch out far behind me.

Everything changed when a neophyte priest’s body was returned to the temple after an unfortunate encounter with a bugbear. Among his possessions, we found a pair of magical boxes. While my fellow priests felt their use was minimal, I saw something far greater in their purpose. Segojan had always been good to me and these were a sure sign that he wanted me to take his message out into the world, adventuring once again with these boxes as an aid. They were called Boxes of Delightful Transport. When an object or objects of limited size are placed into one of the boxes, they are magically teleported to the other box. Through experimentation, we found that their range was unlimited, even working across planar boundaries.

Today, I run the temple effectively while continuing to do what I always loved: adventure. I’ve set up headquarters in the Sigil, City of Doors. At semi-regular intervals, I carry out certain duties entrusted only to the High Priest by way of a teleportation circle between Ravens Bluff and Sigil. The rest of my time is spent exploring the various portals within Sigil, seeking out new life and new civilizations, and boldly going where no gnome has gone before.

As I journey from plane to plane, I’ve decided to start a chronicle of these adventures, detailing the various new worlds I uncover. I’m even hoping to speak with the various people I meet to encourage them to share their stories with me so that I might create a vast (there it is again) compendium of the people, places, adventures and eras I come across. I hope you enjoy the adventure as much as I do.
